A teaser visual has been released for the TV anime The Darwin Incident which is currently in production! Information on the main staff has also been made public.
The Darwin Incident is a human and non-human drama by Shun Umezawa serialized in Kodansha’s monthly comic magazine Afternoon. It depicts the “humanzee” Charlie who is born from a human and a chimpanzee facing human problems like terrorism, online flaming and discrimination as a “non-human”.
The series has sold over 1.6 million copies and has won the 2022 Manga Taisho Grand Prize as well as an Excellence Award in the manga division of the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival and placed 2nd in the 2022 edition of “Recommended Comics Selected by Comic Publishers”.
It has swept every manga award including winning the Asia section of BDGest‘Arts held at the 50th Angoulême International Comics Festival in France and can boast of high popularity not just in Japan but overseas as well.
The teaser visual features the phrase, “The meeting of a human and a non-human changes the world” and gives a sense of the threats that lurk in the everyday lives of Charlie and Lucy.
As for the main staff, the director is Naokatsu Tsuda who has been the chief director of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind and more. The series director is Katsuichi Nakayama who was the assistant director of Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo and the series composition is by Shinichi Inozume from Persona 5: The Animation. The character designs are by Shinpei Tomooka from BUILD-DIVIDE and the anime will be produced by Bellnox Films.
