The stage play adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's film The Garden of Words has revealed the main visual for its upcoming run in Tokyo, as well as photos of its current run in London!
Set to run from November 9 to 19, the Tokyo version stars Kurumu Okamiya as Takao Akizuki, a 15-year-old high school student and aspiring shoemaker, and Mitsuki Tanimura as Yukari Yukino, a mysterious 27-year-old woman he encounters in a garden during the rainy season.
The London version began on August 10, starring Hiroki Berrecloth as Takao and Aki Nakagawa as Yukari. It will run at the Park Theatre until September 9.
While each version is performed by entirely different casts in English and Japanese respectively, both are directed by Alexandra Rutter of UK theatre company Whole Hog Theatre. It originally debuted in 2020 in London, but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The stage play adaptation of The Garden of Words is currently being performed in English at London's Park Theatre until September 9, 2023. It will also be performed in Japanese in Tokyo's Stellar Ball from November 9 to 19, 2023.
