Season 2 of TV anime The Apothecary Diaries is set to air in two cours from January 10th, 2025.
The Apothecary Diaries is a mystery-solving series set in an inner palace based on light novels by Natsu Hyuga and currently published by Hero Bunko with manga adaptations in Big Gangan and Sunday GX. The series has sold over 38 million copies in total.
Set in medieval East Asia it tells the story of Maomao, a young woman with the role of “poison taster” who solves a variety of difficult cases that occur in the imperial court.
When the first season of the anime began airing from October 2023, it became a hot topic after consistently ranking high on the viewer rankings on various platforms and even winning a special award at the “TVer Awards 2023”. Maomao’s refreshing qualities as a heroine as well as the serious mysteries and unfolding human drama of the inner palace have resonated with many and it is loved by people of all ages and genders.
In season 2, after the confirmation of Gyokuyou’s pregnancy, dark clouds begin to swirl around the inner palace. What’s more, Jinshi’s life is targeted and an unprecedented unsolved case occurs. Amidst this disquieting atmosphere, a caravan comes from a foreign country, a special envoy visits with an unreasonable demand and further dark clouds gather in the imperial court. Before long, this new difficult case that awaits Maomao and Jinshi will grow into a major incident that involves the entire country.
