Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron has officially won Japan its very first Golden Globe!
Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, The Boy and the Heron scored the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, a category for which fellow animation legend Makoto Shinkai's Suzume was also nominated.
This is the latest in the film's long list of accolades, including Best Animated Film at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and 2nd Runner-up at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was the first animated film to ever open the event.
Produced by Studio Ghibli with music by Joe Hisaishi, the film premiered in Japan on July 14, 2023, without any traditional publicity, leaving fans with only an official poster. It then made its international premiere on September 7 at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Soma Santoki stars as Mahito Maki alongside Masaki Suda as the Grey Heron and Aimyon as Himi.
For the English dub, Luca Padovan stars as Mahito alongside Christian Bale as Shoichi, Dave Bautista as the Parakeet King, and Gemma Chan as Natsuko.
The Boy and the Heron is currently screening in Japan, the US, and more.
